So close yet so far

A-SQUARE Forklift Alberton played some impressive rugby on Friday, April 8, however, a lapse of concentration cost the home team the game.

The home team was the first to score within the opening minutes, shortly thereafter loosehead Samson Thaba was sent to the sin bin for bad discipline. Pirates capitalized on the numerical advantage and scored three quick tries, leaving the half time score at 21-7.

The second half started with a bang and A-Square Forklift Alberton used the width of the field well to dot down another five pointer.

Great defensive work out wide forced the visitors to adapt their naturally expansive game to a more forward orientated style of play. With a see-saw battle the score was 35-24 with five minutes to go. With two soft tries being leaked the match concluded at 49-26. The final score was not a true reflection of the heart that A-Square ForkLift Alberton showed.

The stand out player for this fixture could of gone to one of many players, but Arno Smit (scrumhalf) ultimately walked away with the honors.

Tries: Deevan Du Plessis, Gavin Jacobs, Kevin Grobler and Ruan Fourie.

Conversions: Renier Wiessener.
