Alberton Gymnastics Club back from Dubai

The Alberton Gymnastics Club came back home with a multitude of medals and trophies after their trip to Dubai recently.

THE Alberton Gymnastics Club came back home with a multitude of medals and trophies after their trip to Dubai recently.

Nine of the club’s gymnasts went to Dubai for the DOGC (Dubai Olympic Gymnastics Club) Inaugural International Invitational, held over the period from end March to the beginning of April.

The club brought back five trophies and many more apparatus medals.

Trophy winners include: Chanté Swart, who won gold overall (overall referring to all gymnastics disciplines); Ané Engelbrecht, silver overall; Kim Veldman, silver overall; Ané Welman, silver overall; and Louise de Villiers, bronze overall.

The other gymnasts who took part, including some medal winners, include: Caitlynn Fairman, Amy Howard, Shaney Kruger and Jordan Simpson.

The club will be competing in several more championships by the end of June, including the Gauteng Championships and the Senior National Championships.

“My gymnasts have a very gruelling schedule. To succeed in this sport you have to put in many, many hours,” said the coach and club leader, Cecile Prinsloo.
