Athletes turn up despite cold weather
The fourth CGA Cross Country meeting will be held on June 11.
THE wet and rainy conditions didn’t stop athletes turning up for the third Central Gauteng Association (CGA) Cross Country league meeting.
The third meeting was held on Saturday, May 14 at the Nike Sports Complex in Orange Farm. Just over 800 athletes made their way to participate in the event.
Andronica Mokgotla of Nedbank Racing Club took first place again this weekend, clocking 14:44 in the 4km event after last week’s wins in Tembisa.
She is in top form and will give any contenders a hard fight for their money in the 2016 Provincial Championships later in the year. “I am looking forward to going down to the national championships which will be held in George and whatever comes after that will be a bonus and a blessing,” she said.
Jerome Andreas of University of Johannesburg Athletics club won the 4km senior men’s with 11:12. “This is my first league and I am aiming to make provincial team to the national championships.”
Regardless of the weather conditions he believes he did well and, of course, there is always room for improvement.
CGA is confident that they will send a strong team to the national event given the quality of athletes turning up at each meeting.
CGA cross country league four will be held June 11 in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, hosted by Daveyton Hearts Athletics Club.
