Paddlers workout on the Vaal

Paddlers tackle the Vaal River.

THE Watuni Canoe Club, based on the Vaal River in Vanderbijlpark, on the North West University Campus, hosted a 25km river race on Saturday, June 25.

Paddlers are training for the longest river race in South Africa, the 240km Berg River Canoe Marathon, which takes place in July, as well as the 80km Fish River Marathon in October, in Cradock.

Warren Ziervogel from Alberton, partnered with Aiden de Vos, who is also a member of the Johannesburg Canoe Club based in south of Johannesburg, at Wemmer Pan.

The pair thoroughly enjoyed the tough workout as the VaalRriver is very sluggish and the race offered the opportunity for paddlers to build on their stamina and endurance. They finished in 2:32.
