ORANGES are ideal for a quick snack, energy booster and for adding zest to many recipes. The versatile fruit is a refreshing addition to spring and summer menus and are a favourite during the winter season, as it contains vitamin C which boosts the immune system and helps to fight off the flu. Quinton Mostert, store manager at Food Lover’s Market at Mall @ Newmarket has given some tips on the popular citrus fruit. Oranges are to be stored in moderate room temperatures for one to two days and can be refrigerated for up to two weeks. When purchasing oranges look out for firm oranges with smooth peels. Pick oranges that are heavier for their size as these will have a higher juice content than those that are lighter in weight.
