Living the dream

Many people have dreams that they hope to achieve in a lifetime.

MANY people have dreams that they hope to achieve in a lifetime. Some make them a reality and others continue to just dream.

Schalk van der Merwe shares his amazing and unique motorcycle journey, a dream come true for him. A compilation of 400 interesting colour photographs and narrative, he has published an account of his adventure in a book called “Living the dream through Africa”.

“Travel is about new and unexpected experiences which destroy prejudices, create understanding and refresh one’s faith in humanity and the beauty of our world,” Schalk explained.

He embarked on this journey hoping it would be the beginning of a ”round the world” tour. Political factors in Egypt stopped him.

Proceeds from the sales of the book will help to fund his next trip.

The information in the book deals with roads, borders, policing, food and accommodation, factors that make it essential reading for anyone about to embark on the same journey.
