Teacher represents SA at world cup
Action netball player is a teacher at President High School.
KARLI van Wyk, a teacher at Hoërskool President High School, recently represented South Africa on the netball court.
She was part and parcel of the South African action netball team that played in the Action Netball World Cup which took place from August 20 to August 27 in Wellington, New Zealand.
The world cup teams who took part were South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and England.
Two tournaments were played, the one a six-a-side consisting of six players – two on defence, two links and two attacks. In the six-a-side version a team can score two points when scoring goals from outside the ring. The other seven-a-side tournament was played with the normal netball rules.
Van Wyk played link for the SA six-a-side team and the team won the silver medal after going down to New Zealand in the final.
During the seven-a-side tournament, the South Africans lost with a mere point in the semi-final to Australia and received a bronze medal for their efforts. Van Wyk played in her favourite position as wing attack, but helped out on goal attack at times.
