Resident at wits end over blocked drain

I asked one of the men his name and he just made up a name, not wanting to tell me who he is. I will not tolerate the attitude this guy has given me.

I want to let everyone know how useless Ekurhuleni is.

We logged a complaint on October 20 and 21 regarding a blocked drain. People came out and put rods of around 18 metres long down our drain.

It was open until recently, now it’s blocked again and when we do washing, the drain seems to be blocked and then the toilet when you flush it, just like before.

We have called so often and gotten so many reference numbers, but it all seems to be in vain.

A hole of around 500mm has been dug, about 1000mm to 2000mm from both sides of the boundary walls.

Now, since nothing has happened and we have been informed that it is an internal problem, why does everything in the drain push up?

How could this be an internal problem?

Someone from Ekurhuleni was supposed to meet me on Saturday and only arrived on Sunday (I do understand workload, you could have at least phoned and let the people know).

They have used nine sticks of 18m to clean previously.

The guys arrived at 18:30 and then started to give us attitude, the more we tried to explain everything, the more attitude they gave us.

I asked one of the men his name and he just made up a name, not wanting to tell me who he is. I will not tolerate the attitude this guy has given me.

Also the time that this team arrived is not good.

Please resolve this or further steps will be taken – private contractors will be brought out and Ekurhuleni will get the bill.

RECORD contacted EMM for comment. Themba Gadebe, EMM spokesperson, responded: “This is a private blockage and not council responsibility. This was communicated to the complainant on Saturday and a senior official visited the site on Sunday and Tuesday to explain it to the consumer.”
