I refer to your article, recently, regarding illegal dumping.
The reason why people dump illegally is because we have no dumping ground anymore in Brackendowns, because it was not zoned (as we were told).
I’m sure I speak on behalf of the garden services in and around the Alberton area. We have to dump only at Alberton dump and they close at 16:30. If you arrive at 16:20, they will not let you in as they want to finish at exactly 16:30; this time is definitely not acceptable, as most garden services are still working up to 17:30-18:00 in summer.
The result is that it costs a lot more in petrol as the guys have to leave their work to dump and then go back to the gardens to complete their work. When I was driving, I was always in contact with the Ekurhuleni Municipality as well as a number of other garden services, but nothing was ever done. So when people dump illegally, I don’t blame them (I used to do the same).
If you want to stop illegal dumping, make sure you have more facilities for people to dump legally.

THE RECORD contacted the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality for comment, but they failed to respond.
