Rubbish apology doesn’t cut it

It has become the norm since there are no consequences - simply ignore the importance of service delivery and apologise later, nothing will happen.

I read, with no surprise whatsoever, on one of the news bulletins on Thursday, December 8, that Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) apologises to residents for not collecting rubbish.

It has become the norm since there are no consequences – simply ignore the importance of service delivery and apologise later, nothing will happen.

But, when the residents are at fault the metro is quick to take action and do not want to hear any apology. I think measures must also be put in place to penalise the EMM for not rendering services as promised due to poor planning, etc. What amazes me is how well they can plan their year-end functions, which occur during working hours, and I suspect that employees get full pay for that day of partying. I also believe that this was the main reason why rubbish was not collected as scheduled.

Can’t they hold their year-end functions over the weekend or on December 16, as to not interrupt service delivery to the ratepayers?

Most of EMM’s employees are on holiday for most of the year anyway.

Baffled Resident

RECORD contacted the EMM but has yet to receive comment.
