Star studded field at SA Open

Star studded field at BMW SA Open championship.

A STAR-STUDDED field assembled for the 106th BMW South African Open championship, which was held at the Glendower Golf Club from Thursday January 12 to 15.

The newly crowned 2016 FedEx Cup champion, Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, plus the tournaments’ ambassador, ‘The Big Easy’ Ernie Els, played in this 2017 BMW SA Open, proudly hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni. McIlroy was world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking for 95 weeks.

Thousands of spectators came to watch this star-studded field, which also included current South African and Alfred Dunhill 2016 champion, Brandon Stone, as well as well known George Coetzee, Retief Goosen and many front runners in this year’s European Tour.

The BMW SA Open championship is one of the oldest national open golf championships in the world and is one of the principal tournaments on the Sunshine Tour. Since 1997, it has also been co-sanctioned by the European Tour.

At the time of going to print the result and winner weren’t available, but a full report will follow next week.
