Course to build coaches from grassroots level

Senior national team assistant coach, Thabo Senong who is also a proud product of the SAB League.

THE largest grassroots football development league is proud to once again host the SAB League Skills Camp.

The match officials and league administrators’ courses were held by SAB and the South African Football Association (SAFA) in 2016 and proved to be a great success.

This year 52 coaches from the respective SAFA regions will be invited for a CAF C licence coaching course which will be held at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria from February 5 to 15.

SAB is a pioneer in football development. The initiative is born out of SAB’s vision of using football as an effective tool of making a meaningful contribution to communities.

With more than 30 000 youngsters across different parts of the country competing weekly, the league has produced a number of the country’s top-performing footballers.

SAB’s firm belief in development has now been extended to the coaches through the CAF C Licence coaching course. It will see coaches at grassroots level being equipped with the most recent coaching methods. These methods have been exclusively developed by technical instructors and coaches from the governing body of African football, CAF.

Senior national team assistant coach Thabo Senong is one of the coaches expected to share their knowledge at the course. He is also a proud product of the SAB League, having coached SAB League clubs from Limpopo .

”It is always rewarding to witness such programmes for coaches at grassroots level. I myself am an SAB League coach graduate, and it is highly important that courses such as these are offered at this level, to ensure that there is a high level of professionalism during these early developmental stages. This also contributes to the standard and quality of coaches produced in the country,” said Senong.
