THE Gauteng Barbarians 10’s team has recently arrived back from a tournament in Cape Town.

The team took part in the Cape Town 10’s Tournament, the biggest tournament of its kind in the world, on February 3 and 4.

They made it to the semi-finals.

“We won three of our five matches and I reckon we did really well, considering we played against some of the biggest names in international rugby, and that the team is only newly formed,” says Jason Waldeck, team manager and player for the Gauteng Barbarians Oldies Team.

“Now we’ll start looking forward to preparations for the Tshwane 10’s, taking place in October,” he adds.

The Gauteng Barbarians were entered in the veterans (over 35 years) category – the main category – with all games taking place on the main field in front of big crowds.

BREAKING THE LINE: The Gauteng Barbarians try to get through the defences of the opposition.

The team competed against local and international teams such as the Western Province Legends, South African Legends and the International Legends.

These teams included players such as Bob Skinstad, Robbie Fleck, Stefan Tereblanche, Percy Montgomery, Butch James, Josh Lewsey, Shane Burn, Breyton Paulse and James Dalton, and many other ex-international and provincial players.

Any business who would like to see their company logo on the team’s jerseys can sponsor the team.
