I notified the SABC TV Licence Department on February 8 per statement under oath of the following:
That I no longer have a TV and haven’t been watching TV for at least three years.
I am a pensioner and cannot afford a new TV.
I requested that my TV licence be cancelled with immediate effect.
A lady from the TV licence department phoned me a few weeks ago and I explained the above information to her.
I followed it up by sending them a statement under oath, but the TV Licence Department sent me another notification: “Avoid penalties. Pay your TV Licence R450 ref: 605535665 by 19/2/17. Tel 011 330 9706.”
The reason why I kept paying my TV licence was because friends warned me in the past I would not succeed in having my TV licence cancelled.
It seems now my friends were right – it is not possible to get it cancelled.
I feel the SABC licensing department is fraudulently collecting money for TV licenses by ignoring my statement under oath. Just imagine how many more people are in the same situation.
Your assistance in getting this matter solved will be greatly appreciated.
