Squatter problem getting worse

Piles of rubbish lie all over the place, and they often burn rubbish and plastic which stinks.

The article “Resident wants answers about squatters” in the Alberton RECORD newspaper recently, refers.

I also live off Phillip Engelbrecht Drive in Meyersdal, in Moolman Place, and our house is bordered by open plots on two sides. There have been squatters living there for the past four years, but recently the numbers have increased and the mess has gotten worse.

WHAT A DUMP: Rubble and rubbish strewn everywhere.

Piles of rubbish lie all over the place, and they often burn rubbish and plastic, which stinks. There is no ablutions or water. There must also be about 10 feral cats roaming around. I am concerned that this is becoming a health hazard. There have been a few security raids but they never seem to be successful to get them to leave.

There are three vacant stands where the squatters live. The owner of one of the stands recently fenced off their property but left the rubbish.

RUBBISH EVERYWHERE: Residents claim the squatters are responsible for the rubbish.

It is the owners who are responsible for maintaining the land. I have attached some pictures taken from my daughter’s bedroom window of two of the open plots on Phillip Engelbrecht.
