THE South will be a beehive of activity for pugilists on September 3 when boxing returns to the well-known Portuguese Hall.
Many international boxers took to the ring at this popular venue in the heydays of boxing in the South. But boxers and their followers will return to bring the sport back onto the doorstep of Southerners for an action-packed bill on Sunday.

Trilogy Boxing Festival will be hosted by Unleashed Sport Events and tickets are already on sale. Three trainers in the South, Lionel Hunter, Manny Fernandes and Anton Gilmore, have put their energy into initiating this much-needed event to bring boxing back to the community. They expressed their hope that Southerners will support the event. This will be the first of many to come.
The event will have a 10-card boxing bill, the main fight being a South African title bout between the popular Lucky Monyebane, from the Harold Volbrecht camp, against Phila Mpontshana in a junior lightweight bout over 12 rounds.
The undercard belongs to Michael Mokoena and Tebogo Lalose in a Gauteng title fight over 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division.

In the women’s division, Lilian Molala will take on Shayvonne Pattison in the heavyweight division over four rounds.
