Sewage is causing a real issue

I have spoken to some municipal workers but all the response you ever get is a shrug or an ”we are aware of this,” but nothing is done.

I would like to draw your attention to the following problem.

The veld that passes between Makro Alberton and the Alberton rugby and soccer clubs have Natalspruit running through it and as well as a main sewage pipe.

The problem is that either the pipe is blocked and overflowing or broken and overflowing. So now we have an ever growing “pond” of raw sewage in the veld. There are birds wading in it, (Sacred Ibis etc) and obviously, with summer and the heat coming, we are going to have swarms of flies and mosquitos.

Now the birds will carry this filth everywhere and the flies will bring disease to the Alberton community. It will eventually (if it has not already) reach Natalspruit, an already foul and dirty vlei. Along with this comes the possible prospect of an outbreak of Typhoid or Cholera in communities downstream.

There is also an appalling smell floating over the rugby and soccer fields which I am sure is really appreciated by visiting rugby and soccer teams making them feel so safe and protected from disease! And I am sure it floats over Makro and the Mall at Newmarket area. How pleasant for the shoppers!

I have spoken to some municipal workers but all the response you ever get is a shrug or an ”we are aware of this,” but nothing is done.

Is it possible to investigate this and publicise the problem so we can get EMM moving on this?
