Referring to the article titled “No good deed goes unpunished” in the November 8 issue of the RECORD, I would like to share some heartwarming news:
Four days after my 50m extension cord was stolen, it was quietly returned to my house during the night. I believe whoever stole it, must have read the newspaper and felt guilty for doing so. I was very pleased to find my cable returned!
Then, a short while after that, a lady who works for the municipality approached me. Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name, but she was so kind and friendly. She gave me two big hugs and thanked me for taking care of the veld. She told me I was doing the community a great favour and I felt so valued and special.
She then gave me R50 out of her own pocket as a contribution to cleaning the veld. What a wonderful gesture. I am so glad to see there are such kind-hearted people in the world, despite all the bad news around us.
