Meet Alberton Football Club’s Clubman of the year

At the beginning of this year however, Reinders decided to focus on his one true love, soccer, as player and coach, all the while studying.

ALBERTON Football Club has announced their Clubman of the Year for 2017.

Devon Reinders (21), an Alberton High School graduate, was awarded this honour during his very first year of being at the club, which shows his commitment and drive…and that on the club’s 50th year of existence to boot.

The award, Clubman of the Year, is given to one person every year who embodies good sportsmanship and dedication to the club and who not only fulfilled his or her player and /or coaching duties, but also helped in other areas where needed.

WINNER: Devon Reinders with his soccer awards.

Reinders has always been very sporty. He also excelled at high jump – especially at school level – and even coached at Alberton High last year.

At the beginning of this year however, Reinders decided to focus on his one true love, namely soccer. He was both a player and coach while studying.

“I’m at the club pretty much from Monday to Sunday, so I’m like a part of the furniture already,” said the friendly young man.

AWARDS CEREMONY: Joa Scholtz (father), Vanessa Scholtz (mother), Devon Reinders and Darren Bedworth (First Team coach).

Reinders recently finished his sport management studies and has attained his level one referee qualification. Now he is focusing on sport psychology, which shows just how seriously he takes his sport, and is also working towards being the best he can be.

Reinders says he coaches children because he is passionate about the sport and says there is no other feeling quite like helping young athletes further develop their natural persistence, dedication, work ethic, heart, leadership skills and respect for others.

CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR: Devon with his Clubman of the Year award.

Reinders ended things with a quote: “We compete not so much against our opponents, but against ourselves. The real question is this: ‘Did I make my best effort?'”
