Leaning tree poses danger to residents

"We need help urgently before someone gets hurt!”

I’m hiring a house from the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure and Development – 23 Jasper Lane, Randhart.

In December 2016 a massive tree in the back of our yard fell over and onto one of our vehicles, due to heavy rain and loose soil. That vehicle has been written off.

I approached a company to come and cut up the tree so that we could remove the car from beneath it and to create space to move around the tree.

The tree that fell over nearly just missed our house and it damaged our wall-fence when it fell. I’ve contacted the department several times via email and telephone because now there is another tree that has started leaning towards our neighbours’ house.

This tree already has its branches touching their roof. There are children living in that house and we are so concerned that the tree falls over while they’re in the room below.

I’ve spoken to contractors to come and cut this tree up, but they don’t seem serious about it at all. I’ve been struggling like this since September.

We need help urgently before someone gets hurt!

THE RECORD contacted the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development but they did not comment on the matter in time for publishing.
