BUSY Streets in Eden Park has for the last years been seen with contractors digging furrows for cables either for Telkom or Eskom.
The last contractor who worked in the street towards the end of 2017 dug furrows and just filled or closed it here and there leaving life risk for residents who have the deep trenches right at their front gates.
The pictured trench is in front of Lizy Engelbrecht’s gate and had already caused a near fatal situation.
“I had visitors during the festive season and a horrible thing happened. The driver could not see the deep trench and he reversed into it.
“The vehicle almost rolled over. One side of it was in the trench causing it to lie on its side. We had to ask passers-by to help push the vehicle out of the trench. These people don’t realise the danger they left us in. The contractor or the metro council must come and close these trenches,” said Lizy.
The residents complained that some spiteful individuals are now dumping their rubbish into the trenches.
