At the last council meeting, on Thursday, January 1, I was going to raise the Silwerkroon lift issue publicly, by replying to the Mayor’s speech.
Unfortunately he did not speak. I therefore wrote a letter and handed it to him personally at the meeting. He promised that he would read it immediately and let me have a reply within a day or so.
Alas, weeks down the line and no contact yet. Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) and the mayor have let the elderly down once more!
My ward committee will be writing to the mayor holding him personally responsible for any negative consequences to the residents.
I am now at my wits’ end as to how to get EMM to sort out the problem.
Maybe the press could ask the Mayor some questions?
Alderman Bruna Haipel
Don Jansen responded to this letter from alderman Haipel as follows:
Morning Bruna, do not give up just yet. Indications are that Mr Mayor has kicked some butt. Three men were here a while back and worked the best part of the day. The so-called caretaker has been at Silwerkroon every day and is liasing with the repair staff.
My only concern is ‘have the EMM kept in touch with the government lift inspector?’ The lift will not be put back into use until he has done an inspection and issued the required certificate declaring the lift is safe to use. Keep your fingers crossed.”
Don Jansen
RECORD has contacted the EMM for comment, but they have not come back to us.
