Carnival City brings the spice

Straight out of Durban to Carnival City comes Hot Masala Comedy and Bash with Tash.

CARNIVAL City presents the Hot Masala Comedy show, dished up and ready to be served for the first time to Joburg audiences by some of the most sizzling comedy acts from KwaZulu-Natal.

Hot Masala Comedy features standup comics and viral video stars Masood Boomgaard, Bash with Tash and Mo Vawda, who collectively have earned millions of views on social media platforms and played to full houses across the country.

FUNNY: Masood Boomgaard.

Together the trio will take the audience on a hilarious cultural adventure, tapping into their experiences growing up in Indian communities in different parts of Durban, telling side-tickling funny anecdotes about overbearing parents, drunk uncles and downright crazy grandparents. The show will also be peppered with great gags on everyday stuff like relationships, the economy, politics and social media. There’s bound to be something for everyone. Hot Masala Comedy is a pulsating cultural comedy experience not to be missed.

Bash with Tash, real name Natashia Portrag, shot to fame in December 2016 when she spontaneously uploaded a comic commentary by herself on Facebook which soared to hundreds of thousands of views. Subsequent videos only heightened her popularity and now she has legions of fans locally and abroad in places like Australia where she will tour in March.

Bash with Tash is best known for her incredible ability to improvise on stage and crowd interaction. Her spontaneity ensures that no two shows are the same. She accredits her success to good work ethic.

Fresh from his recent tours of Australia, Dubai and the UK, Masood Boomgaard is best known for his unique comedic take on current affairs and trends, tackling a variety of topics from politics and sport to the economy and relationships. He often also uses the stage to reflect on his childhood and experiences growing up in a mixed-race family. Look out for his spot-on impersonations of the likes of Jacob Zuma and Donald Trump.

And last but not least, audiences can look forward to the comic stylings of Mo Vawda, widely regarded as one of the hottest up and coming acts in SA comedy. Original and wildly amusing, Vawda draws the funny from his experiences travelling the world as a “Muslim dude” and being married and a young dad.

For one night only, catch these comedians at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre at 8pm on March 24. Tickets are R150 at Computicket.
