What a refreshing thought to notice that we are not alone in our beliefs that e-tolling is just another scam to milk the already overtaxed few!
Stuck in traffic the other day and moving ever so slowly, I looked around and started taking notice of peoples bumper stickers and viola – he we go! People are actually voicing their objection to e-tagging and the absurd e-tolling in more than one way!
Bumper stickers with “No to e-tags” and “We will not buy e-tags”. Then there are those who do not even go out looking to buy bumper stickers – they just improvise and make their own printouts protesting against e-tolling.
And if you think it is only you that feels this way, think again – two taxis passed and I noticed with a smile that they too are objecting against e-tagging and e-tolling!
So Mr Minister, once again while I am stuck in traffic on a Friday afternoon and I can honestly say that I am not impressed with your little speech over the radio stating that we should now stop trying to stop e-tolling because it has to happen.
If we, the people living in a democratic country choose not to be e-tagged and e-tolled, there is little you can do about it.
If only your approach from the beginning was different, if the people were consulted and if you did not try and enforce ridiculous e-toll fees on the nation, then this could have been up and running and we could have put this whole thing to the bed a long time ago.
But if you, and the rest of who-ever is out there trying to enforce this, think that I am going to break my already overworked body to find a second job to make ends meet, and to add another R1 000 plus to my already short falling budget just to make a living and pay your e-tolling, think again. I will not and I am hoping that the rest of the motorist in this country will not.
