Eden Park gogos on the ball

This team of older ladies, pensioners and housewives, is appealing to the community for sponsorship.

KHULOLEKA Football Club is a team consisting of senior citizens in Phase 2 in Eden Park.

It was established in May 2017 by a group of 26 older ladies, who were doing aerobics to keep fit.

Since two stories about them were published in the RECORD, the team has become known around Alberton and surrounding areas.

“Our team has stolen the heart of a very kind gentleman from Brackenhurst. All our members are grateful to him and always pray for him. He has done a lot for us,” said Mandla Lukhele, the team’s coach.

The team showcased their bibs, which were sponsored by the anonymous man, who also organised a braai for the team.

“We are still begging for sponsorship for kit, first aid kit and some cheap tracksuits for the old folk with winter approaching. Our members are unemployed housewives and pensioners who cannot even afford mineral water. “The ladies so wish that EMM or somebody could supply them with gym equipment,” said Lukhele.

“The ladies also participated in the Mandela Walk in Pretoria in December, where they completed the 15km walk and received medals.

Anyone who can assist the team can contact Ann Lalaza on 072 862 5119 or Julie on 071 785 5653.
