Father makes comeback for son Aidan
Diarise July 21 for the celebrations of the Aidan Foundation.
TEN years ago former well-known boxer, Anton Gilmore, made a comeback to boxing to raise awareness for his son’s health issues. On July 21 he will be celebrating the comeback for his son, Aidan.
Aidan has a tumour based disease called tubourous sclerosis which means he has 20 plus brain tumours, skin, heart and kidney tumours. At the age of 38, Anton took the big step back into the ring again at a gala event which was staged at Emperors Palace on AfricanRing Promotor’s, Jeff Ellis, event.
He fought Thompson Mokwana and went on to win with a points decision over six rounds. Since that day, Richard van der Walt, Frank de Costa, Gerald Olivier, Mike Batten, Stephen Hodge, Richard Keenan, Raymond Cerfonteyn, Tendani Thidiela, Aubrey Lovet, Lionel Hunter, Cassius Baloyi and Harry Romagoadi all stepped between the ropes and hosted a golf day by Brian Mitchell to help Anton raise funds for Aidan and other children afflicted by health issues.
Anton has arranged for all of those that fought to come together to celebrate the momentous achievement that a few good men have been able to do.
He asked Thompson to redo the fight and he said he’s been waiting for this rematch for a long time.
“So Anton, you better train.”
The event will be a special one as Anton has found five impoverished people that are from his Walking Tall project to paint boxing pictures that will go on auction on the evening. They will share the proceeds 50/50 with the Aidan Foundation. Walking Tall also discovered a star in the feeding scheme called “Roxanne”, who sings like a dream and she will showcase her four songs for them on the night.
Raymond Cerfonteyn and Anton will go head to head in choosing their 10 best entry songs each as 10 white collar boxing fights take place at One Up in Eastleigh Edenvale.
If you want to donate to the event or be part of this celebration and buy tickets, contact Anton on 083 653 0190.
