Bridge the Gap: Alive with possibilities

Ekurhuleni is the fourth largest city in South Africa and as such our city can be described as alive with possibilities.

The City is always buzzing with a hive of activities for the diverse communities that form its core.

The year is almost at an end but before we get into the holiday mood there are still many exciting events in Ekurhuleni. The City of Ekurhuleni played host this past week to another very successful SA Open Golf Tournament. This tournament is a premier national sporting event and has in recent years made Ekurhuleni its home.

Ekurhuleni is proud to be a major sponsor of this national golf event and the possibilities it creates for aspiring young professional golfers from our communities, and is firmly committed to the development sport and recreation opportunities for all residents, but especially for our youth.

As part of this commitment the professional golfers, in partnership with Ekurhuleni, provide golf tips and lessons for aspiring young golfers from our community. Our sponsorship of the SA Golf Open has also opened the door to outside investors and business people that otherwise would not have known of Ekurhuleni. This single event combine the efforts of sport, business and government in Ekurhuleni.

I must admit that seeing the Ekurhuleni logo at the SA Golf Open was a proud moment for me as both a resident and political leader in Ekurhuleni. The next Ernie Els may just as well be a local home grown golfer thanks to Ekurhuleni and the SA Golf Open.

December is also a month of health and caring starting with world Aids day on December 1. The City of Ekurhuleni will embark on an Aids awareness campaign by hosting a half marathon and a 10km road race on World Aids day. The event will take place at the Katlehong Sport Complex in Masakhane Road, Katlehong.

I would like to invite all sport enthusiasts to this event. Aids affects the whole community and as part of this event the community is invited to participate in a 5km Family Fun Run. Aids is a reality and we have a collective responsibility to create awareness and Bridge this gap.
