Third title strap for Plaatjies

Salahuddin stepped into the cage to face Gift Walker.

AT the Fightstar Fighting Championship Tournament that took place on On 27 October, Alberton’s MMA champion, Salahuddin Julio Plaatjies, stepped into the cage to face Gift Walker.

Salahuddin trains out of Alberton North-based Valhalla MMA and Fitness Mixed Martial Arts Academy, while Gift trains out of the House of Tinkerbell Gym. They competed in a title bout for the flyweight championship.

This was the second time they faced each other. Salahuddin won this time around, along with the flyweight title in the third round, via a rear naked choke.

For Salahuddin, this is the third title strap he has won. He is now the Fightstar Fighting championship flyweight champ, the Gauteng Fighting championship (GFC) bantamweight champ and the Extreme Warriors championship flyweight champ. This makes him the only athlete to have three titles in three organisations.

Salahuddin is also a member of the South African MMA Team, where he won Gold at the IMMAF All Africa Tournament earlier this year. He and the SA Team will also be heading to the IMMAF World championship in Bahrain, in mid-November, to represent South Africa.
