I haven’t lived in Alberton for very long and find it to be such a nice community with down-to-earth people. That’s why I am so shocked about all the murders that seem to be happening here.
I’ve enjoyed reading the newspaper every week and getting to know Alberton. Don’t get me wrong – there are a lot of wonderful people and wonderful stories to read about, but over the past two years I’ve read too many stories about murders to keep track of.
As someone who grew up in various European towns, I’ve never really heard about a murder that took place in my community – I suppose I was very lucky. But now, since moving to South Africa, I’ve heard about more murders taking place in Alberton than in all my previous communities combined.
I moved to this country for its lovely weather, nature and animals and I was told people in South Africa tend to be friendlier and warmer than European cultures. That is true, but I am really starting to question my own safety.
I truly hope that overall safety in Alberton will increase over time and that there does not have to be underlying fear within everyone. A nice community like Alberton deserves to be safe.
