It has now been three weeks and many complaints to the council regarding the vile stench emitting from Meyersdal to Brackenhurst.

It has now been three weeks and many complaints to the council regarding the vile stench emitting from Meyersdal to Brackenhurst.

This is a nightly occurrence, as if someone is pumping raw sewage into the open veld by the Rand Water Board in Jackson Street.

One cannot go into your garden as it makes one nauseous. It’s so overpowering. Can someone arrange to check on this to ascertain what the cause of this is and the solution to this problem?

Perhaps the ward councillor, Marina van Wyk, can shed some light on this problem.

*The RECORD requested comment from councillor Marina van Wyk, on February 8, but to date, no comment was received.

*Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson replied as follows:

We have inspected the area. We have also asked several consumers in the area to get confirmation of the stench.

However, we could not detect the smell or anything that might be a source or anybody who could confirm the stench in the area.

There is a main outfall sewerage line from the City of Johannesburg that crosses the area, and we have also referred the complaint to them so they inspect it.
