Alberton Elande’s lose steam against Poorte

The final score was 79-14 for the Roodepoort side.

A SQUARE Forklift Alberton travelled to Ruimsig to take on the Gold Cup 2019 contenders.

Alberton started like a house on fire, applying all the pressure at the beginning of the fixture. Alberton Elande’s defence was led by the front row specialist and captain Brendon Schafer, followed closely by the tireless Yolando Ndyazo.

The visitors were the first to score as a direct result of the defence in close quarters, forcing the abrasive and direct Poorte to play a wider game. Thorn Khumalo skillfully intercepted on his own 22 to run 80m untouched for the first points of the game.

Shortly after the restart a lapse of concentration saw Poorte score off of a line-out drive. Not to be outdone, Thorn gathered a cross kick to run in for his second try.

Alberton led up until the 33th minute 14-10. Poorte, however, scored soon after a yellow card was awarded to the Elande. That proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back with Poorte scoring six tries in the 10 minutes by utilising the extra space. The half-time score was 34-14.

The second half was much of the same. Sibusiso Sityebi tried to revive the Alberton defence by executing numerous big hits, and however Roodepoort had the ascendency at this point and finished off the game in running style. The final score was 79-14.

If Alberton can sustain the pressure on defence and the 50/50 passes go to hand they will definitely shock one of the so-called bigger clubs.
