Why and what’s wrong with the green bins?

Please note that the green municipal bins are still valid and do not need to be exchanged.

I am referring to the online article on the Alberton RECORD’s web page about the wheelie bins.

In the article, reference is made that as from July 1, the City of Ekurhuleni will only collect refuse contained in council-compliant or supplied 240-litre wheelie bin.

Now my question is why and what’s wrong with the green bins?

If this is implied to all residents, where does the money come from for the municipality to buy all these bins? What is going to happen with the bins that we currently have?

William van Schalkwyk

• Please note that the green municipal bins are still valid and do not need to be exchanged. EMM will no longer collect refuse in private wheelie bins or plastic bags. A green municipal, or the new black municipal bins, are the only valid bins.
