Inside Report with Basch: Welcome 2014

A New Year has dawned upon us full of promise and hope, Happy New Year.

As we all return to our respective workplaces ready to face the New Year with vim and vigour, let’s take a moment to ponder the year gone by. 2013 was by no means a small challenge; it was brim full of shocking stories, scandalous decisions, frustrating electricity crises, fearful moments and its fair share of sad passings.

But it was also a year that saw many successes, heartfelt and inspiring stories and moments of wonder and joy. 2013 we thank you but now onto your big brother 2014.

Oh the excitement this year will bring! Firstly it’s an election year so you know all the parties will be hitting the campaign trail hard. And this means that it is a year of change. It is interesting to note that this year started with a new moon, which almost never happens, the last time that happened was new years 1994 going into 1995 and we all know what a big year of change that was.

So change, or the promise of it, is finally upon us. It is time to stop griping about the problems we face as a country and actually do something about it.

But the elections is only one facet of a year ahead, there is so much promise in the air with gyms full of those with New Year’s resolutions striving to make those resolutions come true. I too have a resolution; I resolve to find all that makes me a happier person and to pursue that relentlessly. To accept that life isn’t always in balance, but to manage the imbalance better, to acknowledge my strengths and not just my weaknesses and to appreciate the little things that I have instead of begrudging that which I don’t.

In short, I am going to make 2014 the year I want it be, by changing that which I can and accepting that which I cannot. Most importantly, I will be working on the realisation that the one thing I can always change, in fact the only thing I need to change to have a fantastic year, is myself. So welcome to 2014. Make it the year you want it to be.
