2018/2019 Equus awards was Horse of the Year, Do it Again.
WALKING away with top honours at the 2018/19 Equus Awards was Horse of the Year, Do It Again.
Claiming a handful of awards for trainer Justin Snaith, Do it Again made a clean sweep at the annual Equus Awards evening which was held on August 13 at Emperors Palace.
Do It Again took home Champion Miler, Middle Distance Horse, Older Male, and the ultimate prize of Horse of the Year.
Sean Tarry was back on the podium this year having relinquished his title to Snaith in 2018, taking home the Trainer of the Year award while Chris van Niekerk took the much-coveted award of Owner of the Year.
Snapping up the jockeys awards in front of his fellow contenders was Lyle Hewitson, who was named the Jockey of the Year. The top points scorer in this category changed hands on several occasions during the season and up until the last day of the competition the winner could be identified.
The award winners are as follows:
Champion two-year-old filly: Gabor
Champion two-year-old colt: Got The Greenlight
Champion three-year-old filly: Celtic Sea
Champion three-year-old colt: Hawwaam
Champion older filly: Oh Susanna (AUS)
Champion older male: Do It Again
Champion sprinter: (1 000 -1 200m age/gender immaterial) Kasimir
Champion miler: (1 400 -1600m age/gender immaterial) Do It Again
Champion middle distance horse :( 1 800 -2 200m, age/gender immaterial) Do It Again
Champion stayer: (2 400m upwards, age/gender immaterial: Magnificent Seven
Champion broodmare: Halfway To Heaven
Champion stallion: Silvano
Champion breeder: Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein
Apprentice of the Year: Luke Ferraris
Champion jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Champion trainer: Sean Tarry
Owner of the year: Mr Chris van Niekerk
Horse of the year: Do It Again.
