Meet the village dog named ‘Smoke’
Alberton SPCA appeals to Albertonians to meet Smoke and help them to find a home for the village dog.
SMOKE was found behind a shopping centre in Eden Park with a very bad case of mange, a type of skin disease caused by parasitic mites.
The SPCA suspected that the burn marks on the centre of his back may have been caused by someone who may have thrown boiling water on him. Mange, to those who may not know, would be like eczema for humans. It causes the hair to fall out and the skin to become inflamed. Smoke is currently under treatment, which will prevent him from spreading his ‘disease’ to other doggies.

When Smoke came into the pound he was so scared and bleeding from the giant scar on his back. He would not come close to anyone and would just sit in his corner. They knew that the dog deserved not only a fair chance, but a happier ending than the beginning of his life.
As the Alberton SPCA initiated treatment, they noticed that he loved food, so much so that this became their way of getting him more out of his shell.

Before you decide to call and apply to adopt Smoke, they need to explain the kind of doggie he is and what they are looking for in the person who wants to adopt him. To some, he looks like a hyena. Smoke is a village dog. By definition village dogs like to hunt for their food. Their social nature means they need to go for walks, they require a big space and to be interacted with on a regular basis. He is described as being extremely smart, so mind games and scavenger hunts for his toys or food around a plot would be perfect. He is roughly six months and would be a great addition to any family.
Albertonians should not hesitate to go and meet him at the Alberton SPCA.
