What have our country and above all, our town come to?
We have weekly reports of crime in our town and more and more often these are serious and violent crimes.
It is with a heavy heart that I wonder how safe are we really.
Our children walk the streets going to and coming from school.
We as Albertonians drive the streets on a daily basis going to work and coming back home.
We enter the local shops and centres for our shopping and today I realise we can so easily be caught in crossfire.
I am referring to the article about the shooting in Michelle Avenue, where in broad daylight, suspects just opened fire on a passing vehicle.
Now this almost sounds like something from the movies where you get those pass-by gang shootouts when a hit is put out on somebody.
All it takes is for one completely innocent resident to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I thank God that there were no injuries but things could have been so much worse – somebody could have been killed.
It would seem that our powers to be just can’t control the things totally out of control in our beautiful country – crime being the worst.
I am proudly South African but deeply worried about the state of our beautiful country and our once quiet town.
Stop crime
