BUSISIWE Nobela, runner up for the Face of SPAR Women’s Challenge 2019 representing the South region, along with Cornel Steyn (SPAR South Rand) and René Kalmer (ambassador for SPAR Grand Prix series) came along to Lerato Education Centre in Jackson’s Informal Settlement to handover a huge donation of trainers to the school.
Earlier in the year, Caxton South joined hands with SPAR as part of their annual fundraising initiative. Get It South magazine contacted Dario Gouveia, founder of Sole2Sole, and his family to ask for their assistance in collecting trainers, both children and adults, which would be handed over to a disadvantaged school.
Lerato Education Centre was identified and on Wednesday, November 6, Busisiwe, Cornel, René, Dario and his mom Zita, with sister Liana, as well as Joburg South Get It editor, Lize-Maré Landsman all met at the school.
A small group of learners were sitting in a group waiting to welcome the guests and eager to see the trainers. “How well behaved these children are,” exclaimed Cornel and René.
“The trainers are going to make a lot of our learners very happy,” said the school principal, Netsai Maposa. Sister Helen (co-ordinator of Lerato Education Centre) added, “Our children will be thrilled to each get a pair or two of these fantastic trainers. The larger sizes won’t go to waste as we get a lot of people coming to us for help from the informal settlement, they’ll be very grateful for a decent pair of shoes.”
The invited guests were given a tour of the school and were highly impressed with how well-run it is. “We do feel very proud of our school and our learners,” said Netsai.
The trainers were admired by the few learners who were still at school and would be handed out the following day to all the learners. “It’ll be an exciting day for them tomorrow,” Sister Helen added.
“Thank you to all the donors who gave trainers to Sole2Sole and to Dario, Liana and Zita, a heartfelt thank you. You are doing amazing work in our community,” said Sister Helen and Netsai.
“This school is obviously so deserving of the trainers and I’m delighted to be here and a part of it all,” Busisiwe added.
