Golden Oldies kicked off the year on a good note as they gathered on their monthly outing on January 8 at Apple Tree in New Redruth.

The group of nine senior citizens from Silwerkroon meet on every first Wednesday of the month for shopping and to have drinks.
Salome Teixeira and Rosa Viviers formed the group about a year ago.
Salome said the aim of the group was for elderly people to spend some quality time together.
“Upon forming this group, we were the only two that would go out and spend some time shopping and catching up.
“We saw these gatherings as being effective. We then decided to invite more people to join us.
“On a normal day, we have lunch and do shopping. It’s the best way to have fun as elderly,” said Teixeira.
