Budding musician Kabous hopes his music touches the lives of others

Kabous, originally from Alberton North, matriculated at Alberton High School and later did drama and film studies at the Tshwane University of Technology.

Johan de Villiers, also known as “Kabous Koegelenberg”, is a talented singer and songwriter who aims to leave footprints of hope in the hearts of others.

He released his debut album, Wonder, in October 2018. The album was recorded by Sweepslag Studios and includes 13 of his other Afrikaans songs such as Wonder, Kat in die sak, Katrina, and Hartstaal to name a few.

The future seems bright for Kabous who is working on his next album which he plans to release in January 2022.

Kabous, originally from Alberton North, matriculated at Alberton High School and later did drama and film studies at the Tshwane University of Technology.

He is currently experiencing a whole new culture, which, he said influences him to write new songs. He is currently teaching art and drama in Dalian, China.

First love

Kabous discovered his love and passion for music and the arts in general in his early teenage years.

“I took guitar lessons as a youngster and during my school years I won numerous drama and theatre awards.

“After the completion of my degree in drama, specialising in singing and voice, I joined a drama teaching school. “It helped me with developing young minds and to be creative,” he said.

He told the RECORD that after tirelessly attending musical events and reaching out to numerous music agencies, he was in despair because nobody would sign him up.

However, his passion did not allow him to throw in the towel.

Comeback

In 2018, he reached out to Enslin Entertainment who loved his music.

Enslin Entertainment started marketing him as one of their artists.

“To this day, Enslin Entertainment has been the support structure to promote my music. I have also served as an adjudicator for numerous art festivals around the country,” he said.

Destiny awaits

He also told the RECORD that each song from his album has a specific influence, and a very special story that goes along with it.

“My hopes and dreams for my music do not involve the aspirations of fame, but rather affecting and impacting someone’s life in a positive way.

“My music career has not been long, but I know that life may take turns to get you to your final destination,” Kabous said.

He hopes to open an art school where like-minded people will be able to live out their passion for the arts in general.

To order his album, contact his mother, Valerie, on 082 561 6141.
