While the two local Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs still have a lot on their plate over the next few days, the eagerly awaited derby lies ahead.
The rivalry will continue on February 29 at FNB stadium when Orlando Pirates will play host to Kaizer Chiefs at 3pm.
It is the most fiercely contested match in the Absa Premiership when they have a face-off. Fans will flock to the stadium and it is almost sold out. This match attracts a large fan base and it will not be different on Saturday.
It was first contested on January 24, 1970, and both teams had their wins and losses over the past decades.
Amakhosi can boast that they have already beaten Pirates two times this season in the Telkom Knockout and league respectively. Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp has respect for their opponents under new head coach and his countryman Josef Zinnbauer.
“This will be a crucial match for us and I don’t expect that it will be a walkover, as Pirates needs this win as much as we do,” said Middendorp at Naturena Village.
Under Zinnbauer’s, the Buccaneers had collected 19 points out of a possible 21 points from seven matches since his arrival at the club in December.
Pirates’ matches under Zinnbauer: W-D-W-W-W-W-W
Chiefs’ macthes under Middendorp in their last 7 matches: W-D-L-W-W-D-W.
