Please assist us in putting speed bumps in Ash, Sering and Kremetart streets.
We have two drivers with a very noisy car and bike racing in our neighbourhood and they do not stop at stop streets as well.
The Sering Crime Watch community is now tired of this and it is becoming a safety risk for all residents.
Please assist us with these racing drivers which is putting everyone’s lives at risk.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Concerned resident – Brackendowns
*The RECORD requested comment from Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson from EMPD, and he replied with the following:
“On February 27 at 6.30am the EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit monitored Sering Street (Brackendowns), which is a 60km/h zone and the highest speed recorded was 54km/h.
“What the unit observed at the intersection of Kremetart and Sering is that the street is a dual carriage way with single lanes on both directions. It is a very quiet street with hardly any flow of traffic, even during peak hours. Only the local residents use that street. As indicated in the above findings, the average speed is under control. The speed unit found no evidence of speeding motorcycles or noisy vehicles while they were on site.”
Concerning Ash Street, it is a dual carriage way with single lanes on both directions. Preliminary investigations reveal that, proper speed operations cannot be conducted on that street, due to the short distance which was calculated to 90m long in total and currently, chances of excessive speeding is mission impossible. On Kremetart Street direction north, which is also a 60km/h zone, the highest speed was 58km/h. The average speed was found to be 52km/h. About Jurie Street near the Liebenberg intersection, it is also a dual carriage way with single lanes on both directions. It is a very peaceful street with hardly any flow of traffic, even during peak hours. “Only the local residents use that street. As indicated by the stats above the average speed is under control. The speed unit found no evidence of speeding motorcycles or noisy vehicles, while they were on site. In terms of erecting speed calming measures, please pay the Alberton Customer Care Centre a visit since engineers, city planning, roads etc. are under one roof and they will be able to advise you,” he said.
