I have been working on a problem area in Mayberry Park for almost a year now, and I am getting the distinct impression that this is going to be another chapter in the never ending story.
The corner of Camdeboo and JG Strydom streets have had a massive issue with burst pipes for the longest time ever. This issue started long before I ever became a councillor and has given me sleepless nights.
The Water Department has sent out crews and engineers to assess the problems rising from this and I have been told on more than one occasion that this has been rectified. If this is so, then why hasn’t the road surface been replaced? The Roads Department tells us that they will only fix it once the problem is resolved and that it is still ongoing.
My frustration levels have hit an all-time high as community members’ patience has run out a long time ago with this issue. I don’t blame them at all, surely this matter should be nothing more than logistical at this point, given the assurances I have received that the leaks have been repaired, yet the saga continues. The road is still not fixed, forcing two lanes into one of the busiest traffic points in the area.
I have asked for barriers to be put up alerting drivers of the danger, that worked for a whole five minutes, as the barrier is constantly moved and has also become a dangerous obstacle as opposed to a help.
All I can say right now around this is that I continue to strive for a positive, lasting outcome, in my lifetime. OK, a bit dramatic, but then again this is a dramatic situation. I can, I will and I must resolve this and finally see the end to the never ending story, even if I have to write the last chapter myself.
