Bracken SAPS safety tips for the prevention of rape

Bracken SAPS share useful tips about how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

IF possible, avoid walking alone. Your best defence is having other people nearby. If you work alone, plan your route carefully. Take note of stores or restaurants that are open should you need to ask for help. Stay in well-lit areas as much as possible. Walk on the side of the street facing the traffic. If you work late, don’t go to your car alone if you can avoid it. Ask somebody to escort you to your car. Don’t hitchhike. Don’t leave a party or a social event with someone you do not know or have just met. Say “No”.

Keep in mind: Most victims know the rapists. You have the right to say “No”. Do not leave the care of your children to anyone you are not 100 per cent sure of. People known to the family commit most child rapes.

Arrests from February 14 to 19: possession of dagga -1, drunk in public -7, intimidation -1, malicious damage to property -1, theft – 3, asssault GBH – 2, assault common – 3, warrant of assault – 2.
