I am a resident of Verwoerdpark, and on the last two occasions that I went out for my morning jog I came across a couple and their two young children cleaning up the paved walkway outside Laerskool President Steyn.
This is a great difference both in how neat and tidy it looks now, but is also so much more comfortable for everybody to walk and jog!
I never thought to stop and ask their names for the purpose of giving them some recognition, though I did stop to thank the gentleman.
To which he simply smiled and went on sweeping and picking up all the leaves, dust and large nut-tupe pips (or whatever they actually are) that drop from those trees.
And the whole family takes part – mom, dad and both children were hard at work each time I’ve seen them. I think they deserve a decent, wide-spread thanks, such as a note in the local newspaper!
All I know is that they are an Afrikaans-speaking couple and they drive a small white bakkie with a white canopy.
Thank you for your time and I sincerely hope to see them mentioned and thanked in the next issue of the RECORD.
