Car missing: beware of tow truck companies

Be aware of a new scam that a tow truck company is running.

My husband was involved in a motor accident a few weeks ago.

While he was in the ambulance the tow truck company took his details down. They got him to sign the form and took the vehicle, before I could get to the scene to take my belongings out of the vehicle or give him my insurance details.

They gave my husband a copy of the documentation, but there was no contact numbers or address of where they took our vehicle.

Their name is 24 Hour Towing, which if you Google it you get every tow truck company in South Africa. The following day I phoned every tow truck company trying to find my car.

The one woman I spoke to said they put your car in storage. A month later they contact you, to ask when you are collecting your car, with a nice bill. They charge you R4 500 for towing, R1000 for security and R350 per day for storage. Which if you can’t pay, they sell your car.

Please be aware.
