Zuma cracks whip over municipalities

Please allow me to comment on the article "Zero tolerance: Corrupt bureaucrats to get marching orders" in the Citizen Business section of Friday, September 19:

ALBERTON – The President and Minister Pravin Gordhan do not address the real problems, namely:

The appointment of carders in the municipalities who are not productive and the appointment of City Managers who can’t manage.

There should be no political interference by the ruling party with the appointment of senior staff at municipalities, and incompetent mayors deployed by the ruling party should stop.

Members of the Mayoral Committees and chairpersons should be selected on the grounds of their competency and not their political affiliation.

The fact that tenders should be opened in public by all state departments should be enforced.

Last but not the least, corrupt officials and councillors should be charged and jailed. It does not help to give them the marching orders, Mr President, they just go to another government institution and do the same there.

Addressing the above will sort out 90 per cent of all problems in municipalities.
