Trip abroad ends in jail nightmare

No safe trip abroad: Woman visiting with friend in United Arab Emirates finds herself locked up in another country

JOHANNESBURG – It is undetermined how a missing 36-year-old woman from Gauteng, who had travelled overseas with a friend, ended up in a Japanese prison.

Eye Witness News reported on November 18 that Marilyn Massyn went missing during a visit to Abu Dhabi at the end of October. Although the details of exactly how Massyn’s visit to one of the largest areas of the United Arab Emirates resulted in her being locked up in Japan remain unclear.

In Abu Dhabi the woman lost all contact with her mom and friends.

The International Relations and Cooperation department have stated on Eye Witness News that they have made contact with Marilyn Massyn, and were still trying to establish why she was apprehended.

Spokesperson for the department Nelson Kgwete was quoted as saying: “Officials in our mission are keeping contact with the woman’s family and are rendering constant assistance. This includes providing up-to-date information of the status of the case against her and her condition.”

A Facebook group ‘Marilyn Massyn – Please help us find her’ was recently closed down after she was located in Japan. A new group ‘Marilyn Massyn – Help us bring her home’ was opened by the same administrators of the previous group.

The story of the location of the previously missing woman has made headlines on TV news channels and on Talk Radio 702.
