Stop blaming EMM – look at your own actions

People should look at their own actions, and their children's actions when they roam the streets as young vandals.

I would like to say that Alberton Day was a success and it is great that events such as these are happening in Alberton. But people’s actions during and after, and the aftermath of destruction by vandals and individuals who obviously don’t think or care, is unasked for.

Staying close to the Rugby Club, we had numerous domestic issues and violence on our pavement at all hours during the festival. Thus we did not attend the festivities due to the violence seen on the roads.

I would just like to thank the people who didn’t drive drunk or cause any disturbance or damages to property of residents or the metro, and who enjoyed the weekend. But I would also like to state my disgust in the ones who made the weekend a nightmare to the residents surrounding the area.

The destruction of these signs go beyond the fact that it is damage to Ekurhuleni property, but can cause major motor vehicle accidents (of which we had numerous too during this festival) and which can lead to loss of life. It is so uncalled for.

People should be aware of the destruction left behind, which will now once again fall upon councillors, when residents will complain about repairs taking long and it being their tax money – but that would not have been the situation if people could just respect others’ property.

And it did not stop there – today, Thursday, December 11, more damage awaited me when I tried to get out of my property. Signs were again removed in Verwoerdpark with one even propped up against my gate! I had to ask someone to remove it as if I should have pushed it, it would have damaged the paving.

I have notified EMM regarding this too. This proves that EMM Roads Department are not the ones not replacing the signs, its vandals stealing and damaging the signs.

People should stop blaming the EMM for not doing their work and look at their own actions, and their children’s actions when they roam the streets as young vandals.
