Devin crowned world champ
The Legends World Final took place in Virginia USA on December 7 and the trophy and title will be coming to South Africa.
ALBERTON – A team of south African drivers left on the Monday after the last round of their local championship, to meet with their local series organiser Kevin Hepburn, who had left a week earlier to go and prepare their cars. Five new cars were purchased, assembled and prepared to give the South African team a good opportunity of being competitive.
Top ranking Legend drivers from all over the world converged on the Virginia motor speedway circuit, all eager to be crowned as the champion, but this honour for 2014 went to South African Liqui Moly Inex Legends Champ, Devin Robertson.
Devin started his racing career in go-carts and progressed to national circuit racing, winning the national polo cup championship on the way. He was then selected as national driver for Renault Motorsport SA, and has since been racing Renault Meganes, also in the Legends series, wanting to prove his driving skills in a cup type series where all equipment should be equal and where the driver’s skills get you crowned as champion.
Legends are motorbike powered machines and often referred to as go-carts with plenty horsepower. Devin has shown the skill required to master these cars, and since the first race of champions he competed in, with the car in which he was undefeated. He then started a winning streak of note, winning every race bar one in his 2013 season, before being crowned 2013 South African Inex Champion.
For 2014 he again had a very successful year, and was only beaten across the line four times out of some 30 plus race heats before being crowned 2014 Liqui Moly series champion.
It was with this winning attitude and skill that he went to the USA to compete and was crowned 2014 Legend World Champion after some really intense and competitive racing with the best legends drivers in the world. Showing just the level of skill that our South African drivers have and are capable of if given the opportunities.
Well done to our first South African to claim the Legends world title .
