Alberton knocks down Police

Alberton repeated their rugby victory against Police last season, by defeating Police with 29-13 prior to the Easter weekend in their last friendly, before the Grand Challenge League kicks-off for Alberton on Friday, April 17 under flood lights against Varsity Cup finalists Pukke at Alberton Stadium.

ALBERTON – Alberton showed much improvement this season, which was reflected by the running rugby which was dished up against Police in a lively game at Alberton.

The visitors opened the scoring line soon after the kick-off with a penalty 0-3. Alberton hit back ten minutes later with a try 5-3, but Police immediately retaliated with their first try 5-8. However a converted try from the home side brought Alberton back in the lead 12-8, but Police scored their second try shortly before halftime with the halftime score 12-13.

In the second half, it was a whole new ball game and the home side ran in three tries of which one was converted to dominate with a 29-13 victory, which augurs well for the league season to kick-off this weekend.

Alberton point scorers were Quentin du Plooy, Anthony Kapp (2), Keith Wood and Kevin Grobler with tries. Ryno Brits converted three of the five tries. Other winning results: Alberton seconds won 11-3, third side 42-0 and u.21 cruised home 53-6.
